OWN has set the Season 4 premiere of Queen Sugar. It will be back on June 12.
For the fourth straight season, series creator Ava DuVernay has set another all-female directing team, which includes Cheryl Dunye (who will also be producing director) along with Carmen Marrón, Numa Perrier, Heidi Saman, Bola Ogun and Tchaiko Omawale. They will be making their television directorial debut. More names will be announced later.
Dunye, the groundbreaking auteur most known for her film The Watermelon Woman, made her television directing debut on Queen Sugar and has gone on to helm episodes of Claws, The Chi, The Fosters, Star and the upcoming David Makes Man. Perrier, the creator of Black & Sexy TV is getting rave reviews for her feature directorial debut, Jezebel, which recently premiered at SXSW. Nigerian-American filmmaker Ogun’s short film, Are We Good Parents was an SXSW Film Festival official selection in 2018. Omawale’s feature film, Solace, premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2018.
